CID Dam Neck
Greetings from CID Naval Station Dam Neck! After transferring a week ago from Norfolk I’ve finally settled in to my per diem barracks here. A tad bit different set up than Norfolk, but comfy nonetheless. The beach is only a 5 minute walk from my door, with the relatively perfect weather going on around here its just a haven for beach-bumming. This weekend they had the annual Neptune Festival which made the place stand out like Atlantic City and produced some pretty nifty sand castles (sorry about the lighting, it was pretty cloudy and later in the day).
I got a resource from my uncle regarding downloading live-shows that are free and recorded for open-public use. Since bands like Gov’t Mule, Phish, and Grateful Dead allow you to record using your own material and publish it accordingly, bt.etree.org is the prefect medium for grabbing whatever shows from whatever dates fix your fancy.
Labor Day weekend DC trip
Our schoolhouse informed us that Labor Day weekend would be a 94 break, so I took the opportunity to train up to D.C. to visit the family as well as some much-required RnR. After hiking over the city and checking out the sites and sleeping for atleast 10 hours a day, I can definitely say I accomplished everything I set out for. It just so happened that the 21st annual DC Blues Fest was Saturday. Eugene “Hideway” Bridges was pretty jammin’ and Teeny had quite a set of lungs.
NWU’s
I went out today to the NEX/Commisary across base today determined to grab atleast one set of the Navy’s new NWU (Naval Working Uniform – which refer to as ‘digital camis’ or ‘aquaflouges’) which are set to replace the current NWU (Utilities – what we refer to as ‘janitors’) December 31st of 2010. After $170 and expecting to wait until Monday to get my name patches, I walked out of NEX with my mission accomplished:
