Piedmont Hike
Thanks to Columbus getting credited with discovering America, all government workers were given a nice hefty three-day long weekend. Given the opportunity I took the 4-hour journey up to the highest-used bandwidth spot on Capitol Hill, complete with all my hiking gear and the soundboards for Widespread Panic’s Portsmouth, VA tour (that I unfortunately had to skip out on due to a huge lack in funds – you can grab the same soundboard I got too). I got in relatively late, so we just sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed some beef stew and Napoleon Dynamite (I love technology
) and just shot what was there to shoot.
Sunday we headed up to Maryland to the Gunpowder Falls State Park to make an attempt at the Gunpowder South Trail past the unmaintained zone (after the park’s boundaries and into the resevoir’s) to the Prettyboy Dam (Prettyboy Resevoir Shots – not mine but still worth a look). Unfortunately we did let time slip (well, matt took longer than usual finding which dead show was appropriate to jam to) and rushed out to the park as quickly as we could to try and tackle the hike out to the dam – or at least as close as possible. We did manage to make it pretty close to the dam but with the sunlight quickly fading away and still having to return on the same path we relaxed for a quick snack and headed back before the last of the sun gave way to the stars (and a few planets). Today we ate the local Salvadoran restaurant by the Eastern Market (where they sell the most chronic Limeades ever, by the way) before heading back to the pad to get two more shows on a disc that I actually just ripped onto my ipod.
All in all, highly successful (and still pretty sore) weekend. Hell, even Louie got stoned out of his gourd!
