Barnes and Noble “Nook”

Recently I had the notion to visit the St. John’s Town Center and head into the Barnes and Noble there to check out their selection of electronic books. In mind I had only the kindle, completely unaware that B&N themselves had released a far more advanced version labelled the Nook. After reading online in regards to free books I found out that not only does Barnes and Noble provide all the classics (most of which I’ve already read, but why not get an e-copy of them as well?) for free, but hundreds of thousands of other publications that have been released. During my online excursion I stumbled an old project I’d heard of years ago called the Project Gutenberg, which is self-explanatory on its home page. This site will obviously be a favorite of mine throughout the next few years in regards to downloading books and music. I’ll be attempting to update this site with books and my little opinions on them as I get through them in the near future. (The last book in this list is just out of sheer curiosity, promise!)

On a jammin’ note, I also found out the other day at AT&T (while visiting the town center) that I’ve gone from a $1250 deposit to a $0 deposit which not only means I’ll be transfering my phone into my own account (fucking christ…its only been 5 years) but I’ll also be getting the new BlackBerry Torch :)

Today’s random

With the constant community-based projects arising throughout the Ubuntu world, you’ll never stop running into new and interesting little things to add to your console. In part I was bored and searching for some new themes when I ran across the Bisigi Project which is a small group of developers with simple-to-install themes and they’re (of course) free.

While visiting in Washington D.C. we went and checked out Harpers Ferry (awesome place) where I was introduced to the which is a geeky project involving you going to all the NPS and receiving ‘cancellation stamps’ for each place you go to. The goal is to not only become more involved in the park service, but its also a neat way to see different places and keep track of your adventures.

Of course with talks of the hiking and camping and outdoors whatnot, I have to mentioned Florida State Parks and their wonderful-to-navigate website that is so simple to use, and even has a ‘one tank’ feature on the site which’ll pinpoint you to parks within your area (only a tank of gas away).
