Unsupervised in DC
Chaos was imminent last weekend with just the two deadheads together jammin’. Had to make so odd arrangements given that the Christmas tree is being left up in all means to become the Valentine’s Day tree, Easter tree, so on and so forth. We managed to take a nice tour throughout a bit of the river-front walkway, down and past the Marine barracks and the Washington Navy yard. We ran through a bit of woods leading from the RFK stadium by the cemetary and ran across quite the well-established urban campsite, even equipped with ‘POSTED: KEEP OUT” signs. Running by a really creepy shut down hospital across from the National Guard’s Armory, Matt informed me the story of the roller derby they have hosted there at the Armory, and how he got quite smashed and hung out with the yuppies there while the women half naked in tight clothing banged on each other.
I got the cache working on the Yahoo API script, but haven’t managed to get around to uploading it to the server, sooner or later it’ll be up there (Hell, I might even make a post specifically about it). I also recently purchased the new BlackBerry Bold 9000 and I must say, the trackpad is a huge improvement over the Curve’s trackball.
Anacostia Islands and Karmic Koala
Being on I-264 by 1000, I could tell the weekend was gonna be quite chill. I made awesome time into D.C. and of course ran into a bit of traffic getting into Capitol Hill, but I did manage to land a pretty nice parking spot right in front of Matt’s apartment (which is apparently unheard). We had a bit of kluski and headed on foot towards the Anacostia Islands for a bit of a hike before the park closed. Apparently we ran past the closing-time for the park (what the hell is the meaning of a 1730 closing time?) and ended up having to break out of the park, imagine that! Other than the horrible rain D.C. managed Saturday, the rest of the weekend went swell, including all the yuppies at Jimmy T’s and their incessant yapping,
From word of a friend I learned about Ubuntu’s newest release, Karmic Koala (9.10). Spent all last night downloading packages and running the upgrade, look here if you really aren’t linux-friendly, and playing around with the installation. I can honestly say its even more so aesthetically pleasing than Jaunty is, and there are little things here and there that just pin-point the detail the developers at Ubuntu really pay attention to. The boot and splash screens are really neat, but unfortunately the system boots up too quick now and you hardly get to see them
NWU’s
I went out today to the NEX/Commisary across base today determined to grab atleast one set of the Navy’s new NWU (Naval Working Uniform – which refer to as ‘digital camis’ or ‘aquaflouges’) which are set to replace the current NWU (Utilities – what we refer to as ‘janitors’) December 31st of 2010. After $170 and expecting to wait until Monday to get my name patches, I walked out of NEX with my mission accomplished:
